Lunar New Year is just around the corner, and it’s the year of the ox. Lunar New Year is full of celebration, decorating, gifts, and delicious food. To help you add a little luck to your life, we’ve picked out our eight best plants to bring you good fortune this year.
Please take a look at our eight unique plants that will help bring you luck in 2021.
Orange Trees

Orange trees are traditionally given during Lunar New Year because they are a good luck sign for a fruitful and abundant year. Orange trees are relatively easy to take care of and can be potted, giving you the ability to move them inside when the weather is less than optimal. The dwarf varieties we carry here at City Floral are perfect for any home. Keep the soil moist, allowing the top inch to dry out before re-watering. This tree needs at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight every day, especially if you want it to bear fruit!
Orchids

Orchids, aside from being gorgeous, symbolize fertility and abundance in the new year. Their flowers add a stunning visual interest and brighten up any spot in your home. Orchids come in various shapes and colors, making them a fantastic choice to fit any home décor. Growing these beautiful and elegant flowers can be easy, even in Colorado. Bromeliad

The bromeliad is a favorite of everyone here at City Floral. These beautifully colored plants are part of the same family as the pineapple plant, which is considered a lucky fruit and can symbolize good fortune. Give your bromeliad bright indirect light but stay away from direct sunlight as that will burn the leaves. Water only when the top two inches of the soil is dry, and don’t overwater as that will cause root rot.
Anthurium

Anthuriums often sport the color red, a symbol for good fortune and prosperity throughout the year. Having these beautiful plants around makes it a favorite in the home during this holiday. The anthurium plant also helps keep the air in your home clean because it filters out ammonia, formaldehyde, and xylene from the air. And that’s good fortune! Anthuriums are native to tropical areas and generally grow on the forest floor. They love indirect bright sunlight. Avoid direct sun because that will cause the leaves to get scorched. After thoroughly watering your Anthurium, allow the top two inches of soil to dry out before re-watering.
Chinese Money Plant (Pilea)

The Chinese money plant is a favorite among our customers at City Floral. It’s also a favorite plant for Lunar New Year because its round coin-like leaves symbolize prosperity. The Pilea likes to be watered thoroughly and then left until the soil is dry before doing another watering. Your Pilea needs bright indirect light and enjoys morning sunshine.
Lucky Bamboo

The lucky bamboo plant is a definite must-have for any Lunar New Year celebration. Interestingly, the lucky bamboo plant isn’t actually from the bamboo family, but it’s a dracaena. The green stalks have a bamboo-like appearance, and as the name suggests, the plant symbolizes luck during the year. If you’re looking to add a little more fortune to your new year, adding the five elements to your lucky bamboo will help. Here’s how:
Add the earth element of stones that surround the stalks.
Add a metal element like coins or a metal pot.
The water element is simply the water used to keep the plant alive.
Add a red element like a ribbon or pot to incorporate the fire element.
Finally, the wood element is the bamboo plant itself.
Peace Lily

The peace lily, according to NASA, has many healing and cleansing properties to your home. Known as one of the most efficient houseplants that clean the air in your home, it removes many chemicals such as trichloroethylene, formaldehyde, xylene, benzene, and ammonia. These tropical plants love bright indirect spaces in your home. Avoid direct sunlight can hurt the leaves and blossoms. An east-facing window is an ideal spot. Keep the soil moist, but don’t allow any standing water. Peace lilies like humidity, so try misting their leaves daily or using a tray of pebbles and water nearby.
Jade Plant

Jade plants are gorgeous succulents with emerald green leaves. The emerald green leaves symbolize wealth, luck, and good fortune throughout the year. When given as a gift, the jade plants’ luck increases even more. Jade plants are easy to care for, and they love full sun with at least four hours of light. Water your jade plants when the top inch of soil is dry, never letting your plant sit in standing water.
